Professional identity and values

My role as a Registered Nurse (BScN) Case Manager is the catalyst that inspired my choice to complete a Master's of Health Studies.

I am a Nurse Case Manager with an organization dedicated to supporting the people of the Qikiqtaaluk (Baffin) region. I facilitate the delivery of health, both at home in remote communities and when accessing healthcare in Ottawa, Ontario as a medical traveler. In December 2019, I traveled to Iqaluit, Nunavut to liaise with the Nunavut Department of Health and local grassroots organizations to develop and implement new programs.

I am pursuing my Master's of Health Studies at Athabasca University to gain more experience and build on my knowledge of healthcare facilitation on a programmatic level. I have foundational experience in nursing but I am keen to develop a broader perspective as it relates to Canadian healthcare and progressive health policy. I would like to use my Master's Degree to bridge into a position within the government, preferably, within the same or similar context as my current role.

My nursing practice is focused on primary, community, and public health. I am interested in the topics of access, sustainability, advocacy, change management, policy development, and interprofessional collaboration. I value client-centered care, quality of life, equality, and culturally competent care and how they support Canadian values within the health system.

My ePortfolio is a means to exhibit my academic and professional endeavors, including guided blogging, curated resources, and reflections.
